She says she would like to act in more independent films, and has already turned down her own eponymous series. “If I do television again, I want to do drama,” Pat recently said. What Pat really hopes to do in the future is direct and write, but she would also like to continue to act. Long term plans aside, what Pat mainly wants to do is spend time with her family. “What I mostly want to do is be with my kids this summer – and have a life next fall.” That life includes maybe taking directing courses in the fall at UCLA in preparation for possibly setting up her own production company.
As Tim and Jill ponder packing up and moving to Indiana, the episode follows a predict-able path strewn with hackneyed touches and one very lame song. Everybody winds up sufficiently huggy-kissy, yet the outcome proves generally uninspired. In the real finale from scribes Ferber, Lloyd Garver and Marley Sims, Tim is quitting “Tool Time” because it has gone hopelessly tabloid, Jill has received a killer offer from a family clinic in Indiana and on-air sidekick Al is about to marry Trudy .

The family comedy will rise again, once the demo tires of shows about single people for self-absorption isn’t just a job but an adventure. When Jill tells Tim of her new job offer, he is initially against it. He tells Wilson as much later, pointing out all of the things he would be leaving behind if they moved, including his family, friends, and business. But Wilson reminds Tim of all the sacrifices that Jill made for his career, and now Tim is faced with doing the same thing for Jill, which he is not used to.
Eight years is a long time and so that emotion is understandable. The work is so intimate, so deeply personal and revealing that you quickly develop a bond with people.” These bonds were definitely sensed every day on the set of HI and couldn’t have been any more apparent than on the day of the last taping.

At one point, Tim became a little uneasy about placing his hand on a red-hot waffle iron. Tim told John Pasquin, the director, “You know what it is, John. You’ve seen me do it a thousand times.” What Tim was referring to is that signature accident prone Tim Taylor double take, which would get a big laugh at the taping when he stares in pain at his “burned” hand.
Of course we all know that Al marred Trudy and Tool Time went out in style. But the big question is whether the Taylors moved to Indiana or not. In part one of the finale, Tim at first refuses to leave Michigan but then changes his mind after talking to Wilson. Jill of course wants to take the job but hesitates because she will miss everyone. In the second parter it looks as though they will move until Jill finds out that Tim has turned down becoming executive producer, a huge raise, and getting complete creative control of “Tool Time” for her. We end with Jill not wanting Tim to sacrifice such an opportunity for her and Tim feeling the same way towards Jill’s job opportunity.

Before the reception, Jill takes Tim to the garage and, after affirming her gratitude at Tim's sacrifice, she reveals that now she doesn't want to leave Michigan. Later, after the reception and all the guests leave, Jill, in a quiet moment alone with Tim, finally admits that she's ready for the next step in their lives. When she wistfully says that she can't imaging leaving the house, Tim begins thinking that they won't have to, envisioning carting the entire house on a truck and trailer, and then on a barge towed by a tugboat. Before the wedding, some of Tim and Al's friends make a wager as to whether or not Al will go through with it; Tim appears disgusted by the idea, but then bets a hundred on Al- and then another $40 that Al is wearing a flannel thong. At the meeting, Dr. Hanover informs Jill that he has recommended her for a job. A Dr. Lee has opened up a family clinic and wants Jill to work in his adolescent development program.
Jill is touched that Tim turned Morgan down because of her job offer, but when Morgan tries to guilt Jill into getting Tim to reconsider, Jill is offended and throws Morgan out of the house, and Al and Trudi's wedding goes off as planned, with Wilson officiating . Tool Time's new producer, Morgan, stages a Jerry Springer style fight on the show. Jill's psychology professor offers her a great job - in Indiana.

Here are some of the cast’s favorite episodes, which were broadcasted in syndication during the week of the finale. It’s slick and painstakingly packaged, as are the two segs that precede it. But coming on the heels of the previous hour, the wrap-up seg fails to add any real insight into the mix, leaving behind a kind of empty feeling. Perhaps that’s why they decided to slap on the extra half-hour of outtakes and merriment that at least leaves the impression of being a celebration. To be sure, “Home Improvement” departs primetime with plenty to celebrate. Allen, Richardson and Hindman — and the consistently tight writing that adroitly played to Allen’s deadpan strengths –lent this doggedly wholesome show a quasi-hip quality it rarely failed to maintain. As they are taking down the fence, Tim tells Wilson that his Tool Time finale was a ratings smash, and that Morgan is now begging him to stay on, offering a big raise and an executive producer credit. Of course Tim and the rest of the cast goofed off on the set; laughing and trying to forget that this taping was the last. Without a doubt that thought was what was at the back of everyone’s mind and the emotions were still felt at the taping.
Also Tim reprises his the role of the voice of Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story 2. The sequel to Toy Story is scheduled to be released for this Thanksgiving. Tim continues to sell his line of power and hand tools , with all profits benefiting children’s charities. He plans to develop six film projects, starring in three of them, and build two hot rods. Al and Tim both ignite acetylene torches, and at the end of the song Tim accidentally sets fire to the "Farewell To Tool Time" banner over the entrance, but two firemen with extinguishers quickly come on stage and put out the flames. Currently Pat has a deal with Disney for acting in two movies.

After the show, Morgan Wandell, the new supervising producer for Tool Time, comes backstage and compliments them on the show. When Morgan hints that Tim can be replaced, Tim threatens to go to talk to Bud, but Morgan informs them that Bud is no longer with Binford Tools, which Tim did not know. When Tim threatens to quit, Morgan blows him off and leaves the set. Just one week after filming the last HI episode, Tim began filming “Galaxy Quest”, a comedy-based sci-fi action-adventure movie. Tim plays one of several washed-up actors from a “Star Trek”-like show who is recruited by aliens to save their world, thinking the actors are fellow aliens. This Dreamworks film also stars Sigourney Weaver , Alan Rickman , and Tony Shalhoub .
